The Hazel Lunch Box pattern collection comes from a series of “post-it notes” I drew for my daughter’s school lunches. It has become so important to her that now, I can’t miss a day! In fact, one morning, because of a parent-teacher conference, I was unable to draw that day’s note. So Hazel drew the picture herself!

Topics for my drawings needed to be readily available and simple - like the weather, seasons of the year, holidays, etc. Geometry is my go-to, especially early in the morning when I am still half asleep (when all the Hazel post-its are created). I love the intuitive nature and play found in the rotation of shapes and the juxtaposition of colors.

I know my daughter will eventually come to an age when this will no longer be cherished and maybe even embarrassing. But for now, I love that she looks forward to these little notes and I hope it will last a little bit longer!
